
Position: Outreach Workers (3) – Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre
Reports to: Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre Coordinator (Wetaskiwin)
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the
supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the Outreach Worker will connect with the
indigenous population who reside in Wetaskiwin with vital resources and support, such as
mental health, addiction, and cultural services, by building trust, coordinating programs, and
promoting healthy lifestyles through community engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES;
Build rapport and trust with individuals from vulnerable populations, including Indigenous
communities, and connect them with available programs and resources.
Implement and coordinate wellness and healing strategies, especially those related to
mental health, addictions, and culture-based programming,
Identify and assess the wellness and outreach needs of the community, providing
referrals to culturally appropriate services and support.
Act as an advocate for community members to ensure their needs are met by existing
systems and services. Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress, and
service referrals.
Work collaboratively with community members, partner organizations, and the
Friendship Centre's staff and management.
Develop and implement outreach plans, maintain client records, collaborate with service
providers, and act as an advocate for community members, requiring skills in
communication, empathy, and cultural competency.
Understanding and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, with a strong knowledge of
the Indigenous community's needs.
A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting individuals facing social and
psychological challenges.
Engage with individuals in the community who are at risk or actively struggling with
substance use, providing immediate support, resources, and pathways to recovery.
Education/Experience:
Education related to human services with experience in outreach, peer support,
or front-line social services.
Knowledge of harm reduction, crisis response, and Indigenous wellness
approaches.
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Lived experience with recovery is considered an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively engage
with clients and partners.
